To Derrik R. ’87 and Allison A. Wynkoop, Marist College is like one of the family. That’s why they established a bequest to ensure the College’s future success.
Derrik was attracted to Marist for its liberal arts reputation. Once on campus, he never looked back—majoring in marketing and eventually earning an MBA in accounting in 1992.
“That was a wonderful defining time in my life,” he says.
Now the president and CEO of Walden Savings Bank, Derrik has remained involved with Marist lecturing in business courses, serving on career panels, and as chairman of the Hudson Valley Scholars program. His sons have graduated from Marist and one, Christopher ’16, currently lectures in the Music Department.
“Marist was there for me every step of my life and continues to be there for my children and through my work with the Hudson Valley Scholars,” Derrik says.
In addition to the scholarship they created in 2019, Derrik and Allison have also established a bequest to support the College.
“I believe, based upon the success that Marist has had, that they will determine the right place for it, and it will continue to help the College prosper and succeed,” Derrik says. He urges his fellow alumni to consider also making a planned gift.
“The Advancement Office worked with us every step of the way to meet our short- and long-term philanthropic goals,” Derrik says. “They can work with other donors to customize a plan that will allow you and your family to be remembered into perpetuity.”
