I have always felt grateful to Marist for providing a great education that helped me succeed. I benefited from a few scholarships when I attended Marist, and donating in the form of a scholarship that assists a current student is one of the ways I can say thanks.
I started contributing to Marist not long after graduating. I have included a gift to Marist in my will to be sure the University’s good work continues. I know that my support, together with that of other alumni, friends of the University, and Legacy Society members, was and is appreciated.
My husband Karl and I funded a scholarship in memory of my parents, Charles and Marian Rundie. Education was extremely important to my parents. I remember my mother quizzing me on my homework every night. Luckily, when I went off to University, I had developed good study habits and didn’t need to bring her along.
Karl and I are fortunate to be in a position to assist in alleviating the cost of University and the burden of loans for today’s students who want to attend Marist. It’s also nice getting to know the young people we are helping. They are so appreciative.
We chose to donate securities to Marist for a few reasons. It’s easy to fill out the form and have the stocks transferred. Having worked at IBM early in my career, I have shares that have appreciated, split, etc., and it would be difficult to determine the taxes if I sold them. By donating them directly to the University, I eliminate this issue while gaining from the current market value.
While I earned graduate degrees at different universities after Marist, it is Marist that will always have a special connection for me. I enjoyed serving on the Alumni Executive Board and volunteering for Marist Fund phonathons. Now living in Charleston, Karl and I are looking forward to connecting with Red Foxes in South Carolina.
