For me, Marist was a life-changing experience. Coming from St. Bernard’s High School in New London, Connecticut, I appreciated the small size of the College and developed friendships lasting a lifetime. I have taken pride in Marist’s development thanks to the great efforts of then Brother Linus Richard Foy and later Dr. Dennis Murray.
As a history major, I benefited from some of Marist’s best faculty of our era—Jerry White, Bro. Edward Cashin, and George Skau. Professor Skau’s course “Presidency in U.S. History” inspired me to create a similar course when I started teaching high school students. My years at Marist prepared me for my graduate work at St. John’s University, where I earned a master’s degree, as well as for my military service with the U.S. Army and U.S. National Guard.
Marist was certainly worth the investment. My freshman year, tuition, room, and board were $1,750! Today, it is still worth the investment. I visit the campus when I travel to the Hudson Valley and am always taken with the friendliness of the students—and all that Red Fox gear! By including a gift to Marist for scholarships in my estate plan, I know I will be making it possible for students to realize their dreams of earning Marist degrees.
To conclude: “Marist was the BEST four years of my life.” I know this will be true, too, for future generations of Red Foxes.
